Some industries need to have a good correlation between the size and the shape characterisation. In the battery industry, the shape and the size of the particles are very important for the electrical properties of the final product. The particle’s morphology can influence their behaviour, their conduction properties, their mechanical resistance, their life time…

The purpose is to find the best size and shape of the Zinc and Manganese Dioxide particles in order to improve the oxidation reaction.

Purpose of analysis

A battery provides electrical energy due to a chemical reaction between the anode and the cathode. The cathode is made of a manganese dioxide mixture. The anode is made of Zinc which is oxided. For the battery industry, the purpose is to find the best ratio between the size and the shape of the Zinc and Manganese Dioxide in order to improve the oxidation The purpose of the analysis is to determine the shape and the size of the different particles of the battery. The results obtained by CCD analysis will be compared with laser analysis.

Measurement principle

The Expert Shape package

post37The Expert Shape Package includes a CCD microscope, a liquid flow-through cell and the Expert Shape Software. The CCD microscope is completely integrated in the 930e Particle Size Analyzer. The powder sample can be analysed by both CCD and laser channels with fully automated protocol in real time.
